“Sewing Machine: a Dignified Way of Life”

Collection of Luis de Pedro

From January 27 to September 24, 2023

The challenge, after the successful exhibitions “Antique Plates of the World” and “Antique Radios and Musical Appliances”, was to maintain the level of quality and public expectation for the next exhibition proposal in the museum’s Room 1: “Exhibitions of Antiques”.

In view of how this great collection of LUIS DE PEDRO has been exhibited in the room, we are convinced that it will have a great impact as the previous ones.

Luis de Pedro, born in Zamora but settled in Gernika from a very young age, has the best collection of sewing machines in the whole of the Basque Country and one of the world’s best.

In 1976, together with his wife María Ángeles Armero, who was an embroiderer, they opened a sewing store where there were sewing machines and on weekends he dedicated to mending. This is how he began to like old machines in a special way and, for decades he has visited hundreds of fairs, auctions, museums and exhibitions in Europe, always looking for a new piece to add to his collection.

Throughout these years he has collected, learned and researched the history of these machines, some of which he is the world’s only owner. In his personal museum he has more than 500 pieces, of which he brings Orduña’s Museum more than 400 machines, as well as various related items. Touch the photo to enlarge it

“OLD RADIOS AND MUSICAL DEVICES”

Agustín Erkoreka Collection

(From June 15 to January 15, 2023)

An extraordinary collection of radios and other old musical devices are part of the exhibition in the Antiques Exhibition Hall from July 15.

The collector, who has brought together these 250 devices and other pieces related to this theme, is Agustín Erkoreka with the invaluable collaboration of Pilar Arruza, his wife.

Agustín has developed his work activity in the world of electrical engineering but, the trigger for this hobby, is the attempt to put into operation an old radio, Zenith brand, that his sailor brother brought from Canada to their native village. After this one, others came and, always with the aim for all devices to work correctly, Agustín and Pilar have been treasuring this important collection that today is close to 300 items and of which they are very proud.
